What will happen in Renault Megane 2021? The Renault Megane has been part of the automotive landscape since 1995 and some rumors announce that the diamond brand would not go beyond the current fourth generation. However, according to our information, the project does exist.
A short sentence from Laurens van den Acker, head of Renault design, in the British press about the future Megane set fire to the canvas at the end of April.
“Inevitably, as soon as we start adding a range of electric vehicles to our catalog, other models will have to leave because we simply cannot develop everything at the same time,” he said, before adding: ” the Renault Megane 2021 is on a market that is continuously under pressure. You have to bet on the future of the market. ” From there to imagine that there will be no fifth-generation Mégane there is only one step that many have already crossed.
According to our information, some iconic models (Scénic, Espace …), and others with a less extensive aura (Talisman, Koleos …) will not be replaced. While it will announce a vast savings plan of 2 billion euros in May, Renault must clean up its range, in particular, due to the arrival of 100% electric offers.
However, the Renault Megane 2021 is not yet on the list of ousted models, either officially, but also unofficially. Internally, such a decision has never been discussed. In an interview he gave us, Ali Kassai (Product and Programs Director of the Renault group) expressed himself on the future of the Mégane: “we have not just invested in a new electronic architecture on the CMF platform C / D to stop it ”(see below).
Also, the BFN project, an internal code designating the model replacing the Renault Megane 2021, is currently under study. Not every project leads to a production vehicle, but at the time of writing, Renault is working on a sequel for the Megane IV. However, it already appears that a variation will not see the light of day: the station wagon.
This bodywork had already been debated at Peugeot during the development of the new 308, and if the Lion has chosen to keep it, it seems that Renault has chosen to part with it. However, according to our information, the specifications of the BFN project take into account this absence of station wagon: in fact, the trunk is the subject of all the attention of development teams to provide a significant load volume for a vehicle. whose size will be, more or less, that of the current sedan (4.36 m in length).
The fifth-generation Megane 2021 project is far from being buried. It could however not take the form of a compact sedan as we know it today, but rather that of a crossover which would come to take place between a Captur, which certainly has grown, but which remains urban, and a Kadjar to which it will grow in terms of sizes and variations…
For the mechanical part, this project will be based on the CMFCD3 platform, the internal name for the evolution of the CMF-C technical base. It will only receive petrol engines, combined with light hybridization, as well as hybrid systems (simple and rechargeable): diesel is finished! Indeed from the new Kadjar II in 2022, Renault will disengage from diesel except for utility vehicles.
The current Renault Megane 2021 will be replaced. It may not be a conventional offer, but a more trendy model. Unless the arrival, on July 1 next, of Luca de Meo, ex-boss of Seat, to the post of general manager of Renault, changes the situation. Taking into account the current economic context and the finances of the company, the new boss could decide to cut this project … or not.
