The Toyota Land Cruiser is about to celebrate its 70th birthday so the Japanese brand has decided to update its popular SUV with a series of quite interesting improvements that mainly affect the mechanics, equipment, and connectivity. The 4×4 is already available for pre-sale at the brand’s dealer network in both three-door and five-door body styles.
The most outstanding novelty affects the performance of the vehicle and is that under the hood is a novel propeller that takes the base of the previous one, but that introduces a series of improvements to increase its specifications. It is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine that previously offered 177 hp, although it is now capable of developing 204 horsepower, that is, an additional 27 hp. We do not know if the maximum torque has increased, but we do know that it can be associated with a six-ratio manual or automatic gearbox, which sends all power to all four wheels.
Another important change is found in the equipment since the Land Cruiser 2021 now has an endowment of expanded safety systems included in the so-called Toyota Safety Sense 2. With its presence, the Japanese SUV benefits from the following systems and driving aids – Emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, smart adaptive cruise control, unintended lane change warning, traffic signal recognition, smart road light control, and track maintenance system. Also, in the more equipped versions, the rear traffic alert and the blind spot detector are added.
Five different finishes
Last but not least, it should be noted that the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The first units will be available after the summer, with two body types (3 and 5-door), as well as five different finishes: NX, GX, VX, VXL, and Limited.
The latter benefits from the active advance system (craw control), adaptive variable suspension, Multi-Terrain system, entertainment system for the rear seats, JBL sound system with 14 speakers, and 650 W of power, as well as a vision camera in 360 degrees.
Prices start at € 40,000 for the three-door body and € 43,300 for the five-door variant.
